round21 is a new lifestyle brand who partners with artists to transform ping pong paddles into works of art.
On April 24, 2020 they launched their collection with me which is called "The pieces Collection".
The initial idea was to create a collection based on classic pinball games. That was also the inspiration for the artworks. However, the year 2020 started differently than we all imagined and the launch of the collection took place during the corona crisis. That's why we thought of a new level for our collection.
So the new concept for the collection called “Pieces,” was based on the idea that every action has a reaction.
I wanted to convey that chain of action and reaction we have with each other in a positive, and uplifting way. Reimagined in the COVID-19 era, I used my art to symbolize the power of the collective and how we are all a piece of the whole. I used both sides of the paddle to express two stories happening in parallel.
Ping pong is a solution to some of the current challenges with the stay-at-home directive most of the world is experiencing as it is one of the activities that can be shared by people of many different backgrounds, ages, and ability. And, the round21 “Pieces” collection helps to reflect the positive narrative of that connectedness during this unique time.
The round21 “Pieces” collection includes (6) six paddles and each paddle will be available as a limited edition offering (limited to 100) to consumers on April 24 in the USA on www.round21.com. The paddles retail for $115.00 and in the month of April, 10% of net proceeds will go toward Public Art Fund supporting the arts during and after the COVID-19 crisis.
round21’s mission is to merge art and sport to unlock creativity, self-expression, and connectivity. Each collection is designed to inspire people to come together, live loud, and to create something new.
